The series of back-and-forth articles debating key issues in religion will begin tomorrow, Thursday, June 11. Our online host is EveryJoe.com, and my civil and friendly debate partner is John C. Wright, who has written widely on religion and related matters.
My first article in the “Theist vs Atheist: What Should You Believe?” series will be published on Thursday, and Mr. Wright’s first article in the series will be published the following day, Friday, June 12, 2015.
Our first question is: Is Religion Worth Arguing About?
My rebuttal to Mr. Wright’s first article will appear on Friday, June 19, and his counter-rebuttal will appear on Friday, June 26.
The series will continue on a weekly schedule and take up the following questions:
* Are Reason and Faith Compatible?
* Can the Existence of God be Proven or At Least Be Made a Reasonable Hypothesis?
* Is Religion Necessary for Personal Morality?
* Does the Meaning of Life Depend on There Being an Afterlife?
* Is Religion Good or Bad for Politics?
* On Balance, Has Religion Been Good or Bad for Humanity?
So please check in at EveryJoe.com for what I expect will be an informative and productive discussion of a vital set of issues.
Thanks very much to publisher Alexander Macris and editor Kori Ellis at EveryJoe.com for suggesting and hosting the debate.
