Andrea-Dworkinism is alive in 2019. One of her followers, writing in The Guardian, makes this huge claim:
“We are living in terrible times for women.”
It’s true that bad things happen to women. Yet bad things happen to people pretty much however you group them, and this claim is a general indictment of the whole era. So I am puzzled and have some questions:
1. Is it that she believes women now have it worse than women in, say, 1800? 1300? 600?
2. Is it that the increasing life expectancy of women, their increasing average wealth, their increasing educational credentials, etc., count for little/less/nothing?
3. Is it only in terms of their relationships with men — sexually, maritally, commercially, other-socially — that she thinks women now have it so much worse?
4. Is this merely rhetorical overstatement to grab sympathy attention for a cause?
5. How does that claim stack up against comparable ones made by activist-advocates for other groups? E.g.,
“We are living in terrible times for Jews.” (Followed by list of bad things that have happened to Jews.)
“We are living in terrible times for Muslims.” (Followed by … )
“We are living in terrible times for gays.” (Followed by … )
“We are living in terrible times for conservatives on campus.” (Followed by … )
“We are living in terrible times for divorcing men.” (Followed by … )
“We are living in terrible times for inner-city youth.” (Followed by … )
Gone at 58. Life is so very short. We all see the depravity in people, it stares at us in the mirror each morning. Yet, can you be turning that glimpse into an end-of-the-world best seller? Big predictions on the fall of civilization are not new. We have a lot of momentum built up.
“At 50, everyone has the face he deserves.” George Orwell
I agree, it’s just feminist hysteria. These people need to grow up, and stop victimizing themselves. Besides, they aren’t the smartest people in the world, either. Youtube is full of videos that show how amusing feminists can be; they make fools of themselves. I am not saying this because they are women, but because they are people who make fool of themselves (here, probably, feminists would accuse me of ‘disrespecting women!’, instead of me saying that these people make fools of themselves, whether they are female, male, or hermaphrodites, asexual, ethereal, green people, etc.
These people are incapable of constructing a strong argument; they say trash such as : ‘Believe women!’. I can imagine Aristotle sniggering.
And, the Guardian’s claim isn’t just huge, is just dumb. These are the reasons why Trump won the elections insted of Clinton. It is neatly explained by philosopher Eric Dodson in one of his videos.
