Following up on School shooters — three hypotheses. Here now are the 12 deadliest K-12 school shootings in the USA since 1970, sorted by date and by deadliness (source: The New York Times):
One observation: School shootings have become deadlier.
Next adding the sex of the shooters and the school type, whether public or private (sources: The Washington Post and Wikipedia):
The one private school on the list was a one-room Amish school, and the shooter was a 32 year-old who does not seem to have had any direct connection to the school. So a next-question is what age the public-school shooters were and what connections they had to the schools they attacked.
One more variable you could have added which is found in almost all mass killer shooting incidents.
‘Gun Free Zone’ – Places where licensed law abiding adults are prohibited from carrying firearms. In the school shooter context, that would mean some of the staff. Thirty percent of Texas schools allow armed staff. This latest massacre was not one of those schools.
